Betting on Belarusian Football
The top division in Belarus is the Belarusian Premier League, almost exclusively dominated of late by BATE Borisov, who, as of 2018, have won 13 successive titles (something that punters are more than aware of when putting down their betting selections). This 16-team league feeds down into the First League, which in turn feeds down to the Second League. There are then a number of provincial leagues.
As well as the league system, the country operates a knockout cup competition, and a super cup. Teams from Belarus enter European qualification depending on domestic performance: BATE once more have flown the flag with notable performances in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League over the past ten years or so.
The Belarus men's and women's teams compete in all major qualifying competition, and the men's teams are also strong at underage level, meaning Belarusian teams provide plenty of opportunities to fill in those betting coupons. Just remember that, due to the harshness of the Belarusian winter, the domestic leagues run over the spring and summer months (European time).
Belarus Football Odds
The 2019 Belarusian season is currently only a few weeks old, so using the completed 2018 season as a guide, the statistics from the Belarusian Premier League are quite telling: goals are not easy to come by. Only 2.15 goals were scored on average per game, which is extremely low – in fact it is one of the lowest ratios anywhere in the world. Unsurprisingly, the number of games in which three or more goals were scored was also extremely low: the number stood at just 27%.
BATE Borisov are currently the big draw in Belarusian football, although their almost total dominance of the domestic league in recent seasons has harmed the competitiveness of the league. It is worth noting however that BATE's dominance does not extend to the domestic cup competitions: they have only won the competition three times in the last 13 completed seasons up to and including 2018 (a period in which they won every single Premier League title). Adding BATE to a betting coupon is a popular activity, but possibly be prepared to back against them in the Belarusian cup.

Belarusian Football History
Like all ex-Soviet states, the history of Belarusian football can be divided before and after 1991, when the country achieved its independence. The Belarus national team played its first match in July 1992 against Lithuania.
Yet there was a strong football tradition among Belarusians before the collapse of the Iron curtain. Dinamo Minsk were one of the strongest teams in the top division of football in the USSR, and often competed in European competitions during that period. And a number of Belarusians represented the Soviet Union national team.
Since independence, the domestic league was dominated originally by Dinamo, but in more recent times has seen total domination by BATE Borisov, who are a favourite of accumulator bets for that very reason. BATE have also played in the UEFA Champions League groups stages, giving more visibility to football in Belarus. Alexander Hleb, previously of Arsenal and Barcelona, remains the country's key player of note.
As yet the national team, men's or women's, have failed to reach a major international tournament finals, but with the progress of BATE, the future looks bright.
