Betting on the Greek Super League

Football in Greece is an incredibly passionate affair, and the country's top clubs possess fanatical supports which can often get a little over enthusiastic. The domestic league system sees the Super League sit at the top of the ladder, and this is of course where Greece's most famous clubs reside: teams such as AEK Athens, Panathinaikos and Olympiakos would all be familiar to global football fans, often for the team's intense rivalries as much as any success achieved, although these three would be by far the most successful sides in the history of Greek football.

The Super League is a 14-team division, while teams sitting at the bottom of the table at the end of the completed season are relegated to the Super League 2. The more successful Greek teams qualify for European competition n the shape of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and our Greek Super League football odds comparison tool covers all of these events.

Greek Super League Odds

Betting on the Greek Super League is popular both within and outside Greece, and Super League title odds ae a hot topic for debate within the European summer months before the league kicks off in August. Games are hotly contested, and while there are teams that have historically dominated, there are still shocks a plenty. Along with the incredible scenes often witnessed in the stands, its enough to bring the gaze of a large audience down on the Greek Super League and Greek players, many of whom go on to establish themselves in bigger leagues within Europe.

The completed 2018/19 season in Greece saw a surprise winner of the Super League: PAOK claimed only their third title, and first since 1985, which caused quite a stir within Greek footballing circles. That same season saw some unusual statistical quirks: the number of goals was below the global average (2.29), there were less draws that we would normally expect to see (23%), while the number of games featuring three or more goals was also well below the average e(just 41%).

Greek Super League History

Although not quite as old as the Olympics, football has still been a long-established sport in Greece – 1905/06 saw the first Greek Championship completed. Since then the top flight has been known under many different guises, but these days is firmly established as the Greek Super League.

Olympiakos have been by far the most successful club down the years, and for this reason it is no surprise to see the team sit atop Greek Super League titles odds tables at the start of each and every season. Olympiakos have 44 titles to date, with great rivals Panathinaikos well behind on 20. AEK Athens come next with 12. Only three other clubs have won the Greek championship, showing how the competition truly is dominated by less than a handful of teams.
