Useful Aston Villa Resource
Betting on Aston Villa has never been made simpler than with the plethora of options that can be browsed through on our odds comparison tool and accompanying statistical range.
As only recent returnees to the English Premier League, the club is clearly not expected to mount any assaults on the league title anytime soon (the outright odds on Aston Villa winning the Premier League are likely to be long in the extreme), but at the same time, heavy investment by the club in new players, a massive fanbase, and established reputation as a big team in England all mean that Aston Villa are not your typically recently-promoted team. During the club's three-year tenure in the English Championship, the club was a Premier League club in everything but name.
What can you expect from Aston Villa betting odds in the current season and beyond? The team is likely to be highly competitive at its Villa Park home where a vociferous support will have the dual benefit of inspiring the team to success and intimidating opponents. Certainly against teams in the middle and bottom half of the Premier League table, betting on Aston Villa will reflect that punters expect the team known as The Villains to more than hold their own, at home at least. Away games will be much harder to call, and so team form, which can be analysed both from a home and away perspective on our website, will be crucial to informing betting selections on Aston Villa.
As well as these home and way breakdowns, we offer a plethora of statistics covering recent form, including everything from average goals scored and conceded to head-to-head records, and even the number of times the club is involved in matches in which both teams score (therefore a great indicator for the ever-popular Both teams To Score (BTTS) bet). Using those statistics is a great way to decide on the bet to take: using the odds checker tool is then vital in securing the best potential returns on your Aston Villa bets.
History of Aston Villa
Birmingham-based Aston Villa have a surprisingly successful history – surprising if you are of a certain age, that is, because in recent times the team has struggled and even spent time in the English Championship, the second tier of domestic football in the country.
In fact, Villa's history includes the biggest prize of them all – the European Cup, now known to audiences as the UEFA Champions League. When Villa won the competition in 1982 (at decent odds it must be added) it was an era of unprecedented success for English clubs in the competition. It was also an era when only the league champions from each country could enter, and the competition was a straight knockout format, featuring home and away legs all the way up to the final.
As league winners from the previous season, Villa took their turn in Europe's main competition, and secured victory by overcoming Bayern Munich in the final. The team won the European Super Cup by beating Barcelona the following season. This was undoubtedly the pinnacle of the club's history.
That league title in 1980/81 was Villa's seventh and final success to date (as of the end of the 2018/19 season). Since then it has been a case of near misses in the league (a couple of second-placed finished) and disappointments in terms of relegation. The club's decline was most markedly demonstrated by the team spending three consecutive seasons in the Championship between 2016 and 2019. However, promotion at the end of the 2018/19 season back to the English Premier League sees betting on Aston Villa as a top-flight force established once more, as it so often has been throughout the history of English football.
As well as those league and European successes, Villa have always been considered somewhat of a cup specialist, and the team has secured seven FA Cup and five League Cups down the years, setting Villa out as one of the best cup teams in the country. That was certainly true before the modern game developed with financial resources which set a set few clubs apart from the rest. Villa missed that gravy train to certain extent, and so odds on Villa winning cup competitions these days will reveal a club that is still a long way away from its past heyday.
